Mark took Julia for a walk to the library this afternoon in the sling, and
she bounced her head the whole way there, meaning she was tired but too irritated
to go to sleep. Of the way back she started to winge, so he held her up a
little so she could see, and Mark said she discovered trees and way happy
the whole way home. She would focus on a tree in front of them, and then stare
at it until it passed out of view behind his shoulder. She began to get smart
and find the tall trees, which she could see from further away, and which
would last behind Mark's shoulder for longer. There were some terraced gardens
beside the path, where the ground is at waist level, and the shrubs at eye
level. They passed one with bright flowers, and as her head snapped around
to find a new tree, they were drawn to these bright flowers, and Mark said
she was really startled and surprised, and stared in awe. By the time they
got home, Mark was almost crab crawling sideways, so that her neck was playing
less tennis, and the trees were staying in her sight longer. Mark got home
sweating and worn out, Julia had cold feet and face from the air, but otherwise
was really warm and bright eyed from her adventures. |
